SOMETHING NEW FOR
2012 and hopefully 2013!!
In our club at
Penrhyn Bay (near Llandudno) we became aware that we had some members who were
facing serious eyesight problems and who could no longer bowl. Our club were enthusiastic in offering us
whatever we needed to address the problem and get these members bowling again.
The first problem
was that of expertise. Luckily we knew of the very person – Ray Barnes at
Bradley Bowling Club Wrexham. As soon as he was approached Ray was more than
willing to assist us. He would travel to all the pilot sessions we were
We settled on 6
Wednesday mornings and started on 15th August starting at 10 am. Ray
drove up and brought with him each time one member of the Touchwood Bowling
Club at Bradley. Starting very gingerly the sessions gathered an impetus and culminated
in the final session on 19th. September when the Touchwood members
with Ray and Sharon Craven travelled in a full mini-bus to play a match against
Penrhyn New Hall members. It was great
fun and before setting off home with plans to stop for ice-cream and possibly a
pint later on, we all sat down to enjoy some light refreshments provided by the
club members at Penrhyn New Hall. The Touchwood Chairman Tom Lewis thanked all
concerned for a wonderful day out.
Our aim is to
establish our own satellite club for the partially sighted in 2013 with the
blessing of the club; one having its own officers and funds.
Lots of hard work to
face up to this winter then and hopefully in early 2013 we will be up and
active, with a name such as the JackHigh club for the
partially sighted. Plans are in hand to
travel to Bradley next season to take on Touchwood on their new all-weather
Penrhyn New Hall.
