John Evans
With this season’s Welsh Player Association Finals
being played at Llanfair PG this year John Evans must surely have a huge
advantage leading into today’s competition on home soil! John, who is the only
player from the Anglesey area to have made this years finals is a popular guy
who has spent years playing at a very high standard and is known by his alias ‘Postie’ at every bowling club along the North Wales Coast
and all the way to Wrexham!
John Evans was a star of the Don James Junior
County Team that won 3 British Team Championships in a row in the mid 90’s
having a fantastic record, winning almost all of his 20 plus junior caps over
this period, singling John out as a future Senior Welsh County Team player and
a mega star in the making!
John Evans has since appeared for Wales,
but not on a regular basis. Horses for courses is a
term used for player selection and as John Evans plays most of his bowls in and
around the Bangor and Anglesey area his chances have been limited due to the
fact that these greens have rarely been used by the Welsh County Team in recent
years. However, to his credit John Evans has always remained part of blueprint
for the future of Welsh bowls and his commitment to the set up has never
wavered. John is without a shadow of a doubt a County class bowler and has
proved so many times during his Welsh appearances and during his matches for
the Anglesey Parks sides.
John Evans is a natural born competitor and enjoys
testing his skills during many area competitions. John is a
Tom Towart Singles Champion and has won many doubles
Tournaments with his regular playing partner, Arwel.
John is a regular entry in the Welsh Merit and has appeared
in the finals day on numerous occasions, this year losing out in the last 16 to
bowling Legend, Kevin Nicholas. John also qualified for last season’s
Welsh Players Association Finals day Competition, proving his worth as a high
caliber player who is able to compete consistently against Wales’s very best
players!
At club level John Evans has never veered from his
home town club of Llanfair PG and is without question their top mark and their
inspirational leader. John Evans Captains both his sides North Wales Coast
League Team in the First Division and also Captains the Llanfair PG squad in the
Blackwell Hydraulics Welsh Counties League (Super League) where he has
impeccable personal statistics for this season, leading his team by example
every step of the way!
John is a confident bowler and an all round nice
guy who would love nothing more than to win one of the biggest Tournaments in
Welsh Bowling in front of his friends, family and local Bowling Club members,
John is a credit to the sport and a credit in particular to the fruition of the
sport on the isle of Anglesey who will surely be in full support of their
heroic talisman today. “Sailed in!” is the call around these parts apparently
