Dear Area and Club Secretary
WELSH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION JUNIOR LEAGUE
The Association agreed at the 2010 AGM on 20th. February to increase the Player Registration Fee payable to the
Association by an extra £1 per player. The Chief Executive indicated
that this extra revenue was to fund development within our sport. It would provide funds to develop a framework
to develop junior players as one of the Association’s main objectives.
At the first meeting of the Management Committee of the WCGBA this last
Saturday 6th March, the commitment of the Association to the project
took a further step forward, when a group worked for a morning to look at how
we can get this important project started. This group represented the four
Areas within the Association and also heard the views of an existing Welsh
Junior player.
As a result, I have been asked to write to you regarding a new Junior
League that the association is keen to get started. The W.C.G.B.A has committed
to fund the league for season 2010. The objective is to get all juniors playing
competitive Crown Green Bowls to enable them to improve their game by playing
against other players from other clubs in a mini junior league. These players
could eventually be playing for the Welsh Junior Team. We know that this is a
formula that is tried and tested with a lot of success by other counties within
the BCGBA and we are very keen to try it within Wales.
Formula for the
Junior Mini-League
·
The games would be played on a Friday Night starting
at 6-30 pm
·
The matches to consist of 4 singles games and two
pairs so your team could consist of 4-8 players per match.
·
Depending on the response that we get the intention
is to put all the clubs in their own respective areas. If we do not get
sufficient from one area we could combine two areas together.
·
Clubs would then play against each other, the
fixtures to take place every 3 weeks. These fixtures to be worked around the
existing county Cup dates. At the end of the season the winners and maybe
runners up of each area group would play off against each other similar to the
Welsh Club Championship.
·
If your club has only got one junior member we would
suggest maybe that they join up with some other juniors to form a team.
·
If your club should have more than 8 juniors maybe
you would consider ENTERING TWO TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE.
THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO GET ALL OUR JUNIOR PLAYERS PLAYING
COMPETITIVE BOWLS.
Please give this matter your urgent attention as there is a lot of work
to be done to get this league up and running in 2010. I am asking for your
entries by the 10th April 2010.
Yours Sincerely
David Walker
