Re: WALES V NORTH LANCS & FYLDE 2009
Terry(gandhi) »
All who were fortunate to be at Penwortham
were treated to an afternoon of first class bowling by both teams in a match
played in beautiful sunshine on an immaculately prepared green that brought out
the very best in all the bowlers. Arwel Davies had to
withdraw from the squad due to the imminent birth of his child and with the
four reserves Geraint Williams, Nick Jones ,Steve Curbishley & Mike Gilpin all
bowling superbly in the pre-match practice Roger Morgan had the unenviable task
of selecting one to play, the decision came to Geraint Williams by virtue of
greater experience at this level. Special praise must go the supporters of both
teams for the encouragement to their team and to the friendly banter from both
sides, but it was a great advertisement for the sport
to witness both sides of supporters clapping & cheering good woods by
bowlers no matter which side they were on.
John Bailey (20) v Wayne Ditchfield
(21)
With two very talented bowlers bowling well it was
obvious everyone would be treated to a feast of bowling. With
the game being nip & tuck up to the 14th end with the score at 11 each and
points hard to amass due to the laser accurate stike
rate by each player that removed jack touchers with
such regularity a long duel was obvious.Wayne had a
blistering run in the middle of the game going into a 17/11 lead against John
who was doing nothing wrong. John then found the jack again and fought back
with such determination & skill to eventualy run up a 20/19 lead but only to
see
Paul Hallett (12) v Paul
Brett (21)
Paul Hallett found Paul Brett
hot to handle in the start of their game and was unable to get a good hold of
the jack to enable him to settle into his customary attacking mode and found
himself 19/6 down after 20 ends ,a score that did not
truly reflect the closeness of the bowling. Paul H then
took hold of the jack and fought back with great
determination to bring the game back to 19/12 ,earning such valuable points to
his sides total to finally bowing out at 12. Well Bowled
again.
Carl Roberts (18)
v Neil Helm (21)
Mally as ever showed his class in his own imitable style, playing
well with jack touching accuracy, but again with his opponent Neil Helm was so
difficult to lose which produced a first rate bowling spectacle.Mally
fought hard and opened up an 18/14 lead only to bowl what was in his standard
couple of slack ends that cost him the game 21/18. Well played Mally...a proper bowler!!!
Kevin Nicholas (21) v Paul Wilson (1
The rotund custards propelled by the master craftsman
gained another hard fought victory for Wales against a very strong opponent who
fought tooth & nail with Kev for every point in a
very skillful and fascinating game but one that Kev so richly deserved to win. Well bowled again
Geraint Williams (15) v Simon Coupe (21)
Jacko did himself ,his team & country
proud in the way he put supreme effort to fight for every point against the
widely acclaimed skills of Simon Coupe and in fact matched him in all aspects
of the game and was unlucky to be 19/11 down aftr 25
ends only to fight back to 15 before bowing out.Your
Dad would have been so proud of you & so were we !!!
Roger Morgan (18)
v Stuart Mort (21)
Captain courageous Roger who is such an inspiration to
the team struggled so hard to come to terms with the green and Stuart and after
20 ends found himself 17/8 down andstaring down the
barrel of a heavy defeat but with skill & determination Roger fought his
way back to 20/18 down and was som unlucky not to
have run out victor. A graet fight back well done Roger.
Nick Hughes (20) v John Hodson
(21)
Freako as always gave 110% in concentrated skill and effort and
together with John producing top quality bowls an inevitable feast of bowling
was to ensue that had both players lying neck & neck throughout their game
but with Freako lying on 20/19 John stole 2 to steal
a victory Freako so deserved. Well Played
matey.
Mike Riley (21) v Lee Heaton (13)
Rabbit was awesome in his game that I am sure had Lee
feeling somewhat shell shocked by the way he peppered the jack (He must have used
a cruet full). The faces of his lads was a joy to behold as they watched dad
perform so well.The Endsleigh
man of the match was unaminously awarded to Mike for
such a wonderful display of bowls. Great stuff mate !!
Gerwyn Davies (20) v Lyndon Carr (21)
Beasty battled so very hard to keep in touch with Lyndon in the
opening encounters of their match but found himself 7/12 down after 15 ends but
going up a gear found his true unassailable form to rocket into a 18/14 lead
with some great twos,unfortunately
with the scors locked 20/20 Beasty
was disappointed to lose the last end. Well done again mate.
Anthony Bailey (21) v David Watters (15)
Anthony gave another immaculate display in the red shirt
but in a tightly fought encounter with Dave he always looked the master and
richly deserved his victory with some great bowls. Well played Ant once again
mate.
Chris Slater (21) v Hugh Hornby
(20)
Slat went off like a house on fire leading 15/9 with some
great bowling that we have become accustomed to but then Hugh fought back with
skill and took the lead to 20/18 but Slat was having none of that and fought
back to win to 21/20 which gave him great delight. Great game well played mate.
Andrew Hughes (21) v John Metters
(15)
Crazy found it very hard to get going in his game with
John at the start and found himself 13/3 down and looking as if a hole needed
digging of the game in the churchyard but with true grit & determination
his true form returned to him and with mindboggling
precision he blasted his way back to a magnificent victory that so justly
earned him the Welsh man of the match award. Great fightback
Crazy ,excellent effort a Proper bowler!!
