WCGBA  JUNIOR LEAGUE

It’s Official!! We will have a junior league covering all 4 areas this year!!

It will start on Friday May 7th/Saturday May 8th

Matches will be played on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings, whichever is convenient for the home side. There is also the possibility of playing at other mutually agreed times, when Friday or Saturday are impossible.

We hope that as many clubs as possible will enter teams into the league. If your club has too few juniors to do this, we hope you will still enter, whatever juniors you have, and the Junior League Management Committee will ensure that your juniors do get to bowl as part of another team in your area.

Our aim is simple – we want to see all the juniors play competitive bowls. It is all about raising the standard across the four areas.

Teams will play 4 singles games and two pairs games in each match.

The League Competition rules are being drawn up by the WCGBA Tournament sub-committee and will be available at their next meeting on April 23rd.

All clubs entering the league are required to send a representative to the meeting on

April 23rd at Abergele BC starting at 7pm.

All clubs making entries are required to attend this meeting and bring with them full details of their juniors such as

·         Name

·         BCGBA Number

·         Date of Birth

·         Address

·         Telephone Numbers

This information will go into a database of junior players that will be held by the WCGBA Child Protection Officer.

CHILD PROTECTION IN WCGBA

Whilst this Newsletter is almost totally about the news that the Association is about to launch a new WCGBA Junior League, it is probably a good idea to let you know that following the SGM decision in February 2010 to insist that all affiliated clubs appoint a Child Protection Officer, the Association has now achieved this objective. EVERY ONE OF OUR AFFILIATED CLUBS DOES HAVE A CHILD PROTECTION OFFICER.

Congratulations to all those involved in this effort; particularly the Area CPOs; DT Evans (Gwynedd); Roy Mills (Glyndwr); David Walker (Flintshire) and John Lloyd (Wrexham) and Pauline Lindley WCGBA Secretary who is our Counter Signatory for CRB clearance and Dusia Price who looks after the Child Protection needs of referees.  They have all put in a tremendous amount of work to achieve this success. It makes us the envy of the BCGBA incidentally.

A programme of seminars offering basic information for our CPOs has been running since February thanks to the enormous effort and energy of Roy Mills.  If your CPO has missed out on this valuable seminar, please do get in touch with your area CPO.

The term Child Protection Officer (CPO) whilst covering the protection of all young people entering our sport, also covers protection of any vulnerable adults playing bowls within our clubs.

COMPETITIONS

Details of all competitions are now with your club secretary and hopefully on your noticeboard. Please make every effort to enter, especially the merits as the number of Welsh qualifiers for the BCGBA finals, depends on the number of entries we have in our Welsh Merits.

The more entries we have the more qualifiers there will be.
